FIFA will introduce goal-line technology from July 2010
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
The world of professional and international rugby has already embraced television-refereeing as a standard when there is a disputed try. The governing body of the international football federation, FIFA, has announced that it would be “Nonsense not to reopen the file on goal-line technologies” as an increasing number of fans are disgusted by the fact that football refereeing is still in the “stone-age” when it comes to controversial goal-line decisions.
In an independent survey 90% of international fans at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa said that ‘goal-line high tech’ should be implemented to avoid discouragement and disrupting team moral. When 40,000-60,000 viewers at the stadium see that it was a goal on the big screen, the referee should decide on the ‘forensic evidence’ and not on what “the linesmen thought” they saw.
FIFA is to adopt the goal-line technology when its executive committee meets in July in Whales. There have also been suggested that FIFA matches should employ six linesmen in total, three for each side. One would concentrate on centerfield activities and the other two would concentrate on off-side and goal-line activities.
