Monday, May 31st, 2010
The South African Police Services (SAPS) has confirmed international reports that die-hard English football hooligans have been apprehended prior to the 2010 World Cup in the host nation – The Republic of South Africa.
“South African police have stopped renowned English football hooligans from sneaking into the country prior to the World Cup,” Nathi Mthethwa, Minister of Police said Monday. He added that the notorious villains had tried to enter South Africa via Dubai.
The moratorium for some 3,200 black-listed football hooligans had until Tuesday (May 25, 2010) to hand over their passports or other travel documents, in an attempt to prevent them from travelling to the football spectacular in South Africa.
‘SAPS will take no nonsense,” he said, adding that football hooliganism is almost unknown in South Africa.
