Hungarian Security Office Reveals Oszod Probe Findings
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009Former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany’s 2006 ‘Oszod’ speech, in which he admitted to lying, caused mass civil unrest and police retaliation that was accused of serious brutality. Previously believed to have leaked from a confidential party meeting, the speech was found to be a casual conference log on Monday.
According to Hungarian State Television’s report, a National Security Office (NBH) probe revealed that the unidentified recorder of the speech was a party insider.
NBH stated that the act of recording was in fact legal, as no wiretapping was involved.
The report failed to uncover further information, such as how the recording spread to Hungarian media. The three year study was commissioned by former National Security Minister Gyorgy Szilvasi.
